Hi everyone!
I hope everyone has been enjoying their summer so far! We hope to see you at one of our upcoming meetings, especially if some of our college students are home for the summer, or if some of our soon to be off to college students want to visit us before they are off on their adventures!!
Several items to talk about…first of all, summer is parade season! On July 4th, OutSupport was represented in our first parade in Medina! While it wasn’t an official PRIDE event, Our 50+ marchers and riders was the biggest group in the town’s annual parade, and the first time an LGBTQ group was represented! Yay, us! Look for pics on OutSupport’s facebook page! More parades to participate in include this weekend (July 22-23) in Mansfield: details at www.mansfieldgaypride.com and Cleveland PRIDE, on Saturday, August 13: details at www.clevelandpride.org. I may go ahead and sign OutSupport up for walking in Cleveland PRIDE…I’ve got some health issues that need sorted out, so once I know I can go, I’ll sign us up! Please let me know if you would be interested in walking in the parade with OutSupport…I know we’ve been invited to walk with other organizations, so maybe that will be what we will do.
This upcoming, July 25 meeting will be our LGBTQ Medical Resources event! We’ve got several physicians, practitioners, and others working in the health care field with the LGBTQ family. I’m looking forward to learning about what’s available in NEOhio, and hope to see you there, too! Our regular support group meeting will resume for our August meeting.
At our May meeting, we welcomed Lorie Lerner from Akron General’s Visiting Nurse services, to learn what the area LGBTQ family might want for specialized grief support. Well, she put a program together that will be offered for 3 Monday evenings in August…August 15, 22, and 29 from 5:30-7:00pm. Address Justin T Rogers Hospice Care Center 3358 Ridgewood Rd. Akron. This support will be for those who are grieving personal loss of an LGBTQ partner, family member or friend, or grieving from the untimely deaths of those who are taken from us by violence, such as gay or trans-related homicides, or from the terrible tragedy of Orlando. Come and share your feelings in a safe space. No need to RSVP…just show up. For questions, please call Lorie at 330-668-4679. Please try to attend at least one of these meetings…it truly helps to talk about grief we feel after the loss of someone dear to us.
The last bit of info is that the HRC is holding its 23rd Annual Cleveland Gala on Saturday, Aug. 27. Flyer link is below, or go to www.hrcclevelandgala.com Looks like fun!!
I hope to see you this Monday, July 25, but if not, I hope you enjoy the rest of summer!!
Kindest regards,
Sandy
