Hi all!
I hope this finds you all well, in whatever your life holds for you!
This email will be a shorter one (haha). I may have mentioned in emails that a group is forming in Medina to work toward an LGBTQ Non-Discrimination Ordinance here in the City of Medina. Well, over the summer, we have been working especially hard (LOTS of behind the scenes meetings and conversations) and we are at an important place in the process, and I wanted to share that info with you!
The ordinance currently is in the Special Legislation Committee, chaired by a man named Bill Lamb, who is very supportive of the measure. The other 2 on the committee will need more convincing from Medina constituents. Bill has asked any and all Medina residents (or if you work in Medina, or you or family members went to Medina City Schools) to please write a letter of support for the ordinance. This letter should include why you would be supportive of a non-discrimination ordinance, from either a personal or professional reason, or just that you want to live in a city that is safe and fair for all who live here. The ordinance would protect LGBTQ residents from discrimination in housing, employment, and public accommodations (think wedding cake or restrooms). It would be helpful if you would use those terms in your letter.
The meeting to consider this ordinance going forward is scheduled for October 17, 2018 at 7:00pm. We ask that any letter you may write arrive at Medina City Hall by October 16.
Please send your letter of support to:
Medina City Hall
Medina City Council, Attention Bill Lamb
132 Elmwood Ave.
Medina, Ohio 44256
If you live or work in Medina, please consider attending the meeting to show support. If you live outside of Medina, please know that we will be asking your attendance at a future meeting, if this passes through this committee. We thank you in advance for your support!! If you have any questions, feel free to contact me!
As a reminder, our next monthly support group meeting will be next Monday, Sept. 24 at 7:00! We hope to see you there if you need support, want to give support, or just believe in equality!!
Kindest regards,
Sandy
