April 2024

Hi all,

We hope that you all are welcoming spring and celebrated Transgender Day of Visibility in some way! This letter will be a bit short, but I wanted to get a few details out to you.

First off, we want to send a BIG THANK YOU to the Gay Community Endowment Fund for their support of OutSupport again this year. The grant helps us "keep the lights on", and helps us pay our bills, so we can focus on providing support, information and advocacy here in Medina County. We are also very appreciative of all of the personal donations that we receive throughout the year, which helps us do all sorts of other things to try to make the world a better place for LGBTQ folks here. Thank you.

Our summer schedule is being worked on (we should have a flyer by next months email), but we have dates pinned down:

Medina High School is presenting The Prom for its Spring Musical! If you've seen it on Broadway, you're sure to love the story of 2 queer youths, who just want a chance to go to Prom and dance together! And a few laughs along the way. Attached, see detail. I'll be going on Sat., April 20...maybe see you there?

If you are a movie buff, don't miss this year's Cleveland Int'l Film Festival! At least 18 queer oriented films are presented, and several awards are being given to queer filmmakers, which you can find here:

Have you checked out www.outfest.org ?

This is an interesting LGBTQ history organization in Los Angeles, CA...check it out!

The Ohio Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers is presenting helpful information for social workers, counselors, and others, as they navigate their profession in light of the passage of HB 68. Attached, please find the details for several events and trainings, that are accessible and FREE to all (not just social workers!).

We'd like to extend a heartfelt THANK YOU to Siobhan Boyd-Nelson as she is leaving her many roles at Equality Ohio! Siobhan worked tirelessly alongside the Equality Medina team, helping get our LGBTQ+ Ordinance passed in 2019. We thank her for her service and wish her only the best in whatever her future has in store!

Lastly, this is a very big year, politically speaking. What happens in the November elections will have a great impact on all of our lives. If you are not registered to vote, please do so soon. There are petitions that need signatures for gerrymandering, and a $15/hr wage. As well as important local, regional, state and federal races. You can't make change if you don't vote, so please...do your part, and get registered. Unsure of your voter status?

Sending hugs to you all...enjoy the spring!!
